Eduard Sergeevich was born on May 18, 1940 in the city of Kuybyshevka-Eastern (nowknown as Belogorsk) of the Amur Region, in the family of railroaders.

In his school years Eduard Sergeevich was a member of the young railroaders’ club and in summer used to practice in the children's Maloamurskaya railway, where he learned the basics of his future profession. After his first attempt to enter the University turned out to be a failure, Eduard worked at the locomotive depot "Kuibyshevka-Vostochnaya" (now known as the locomotive depot "Belogorsk") was first an apprentice of a carpenter and later he became a carpenter himself. Later, as a student of the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Engineers, during the industrial practice he mastered the profession of the coupler and the conductor of the wagons, the duty officer at the station, the train dispatcher.
After graduation from the university with the diploma of railways operation, Eduard Poddavashkin decided to work at the East Siberian Railway. He worked as a duty officer in the depot of Irkutsk, then as the head of Zalari station. His desire to introduce some new ideas of his own has already manifested itself here. Thus, in 1965, he proved the need of merging several railway stations and was the first to lead the joint Sukhovskaya node, which provided services to the Angarsk oil refinery, the largest in Siberia.
In 1970, Eduard Sergeevich came back to his native city Belogorsk as the head of Belogorsk-2 station, and he then was promoted to the head of the united Belogorsk station. It is also worth mentioning that in 1939-1940 his father led this station. In 1974, Eduard Sergeevich was assigned to be the first deputy head of the Trans-Baikal railway traffic service, and in 1975 - the chief of the Chita branch of the road. In 1978 he became the deputy chief of this road and the chief of the traffic service at the same time. In October 1982, E.S. Poddavashkin got a new appointment. He became a candidate for the post of head of the Bashkir branch of the Kuibyshev Railway in Moscow. A year later he headed the Kuibyshev Railway (1986-1992). In 1992, Eduard Sergeyevich transferred to Moscow - he obtained the post of First Deputy Minister of Railways of the Russian Federation. A year later he was the head of the Main Computer Center (MCC) of the Ministry of Railways.
In the years of his work as the First Deputy Minister of Railways (1992-1993), Deputy Minister (1996-1998) and Head of MCC (1994-1996, 1998-2000) one of the main tasks for the railway industry was to create and implement telecommunications and information systems successfully.
E.S. Poddavashkin - one of the leading authors of the industry informatization concept which was then applied by the Ministry of Railways in February 1996, and he was also the ideologist of the creation of a modern automated system for servicing railway users and the Center for Corporate Transport Services, an automated information system for the operation of rolling stock in the CIS and Baltic countries, and new structures for managing the industry. Under the guidance of E.S. Poddavashkin the concept of creating and the program for the development of the digital communication network of the Ministry of Railways of Russia was developed.
In July 1997 Poddavashkin became the leading designer of the telecommunications and information systems of the railway transport in the Railways Ministry of Russia. In 1998 Eduard Sergeevichwas awarded as "Person of the Year" in the nomination "Entrepreneurship, Economics" of the Russian Biographical Institute for the introduction of high-tech control systems for rail transport in Russia.
Under the guidance of E.S. Poddavashkin the concept and program of informatization of higher and secondary professional educational institutions of the industry were developed. Under his editorship and participation two new textbooks came out - "Information Systems in Railway Transport" and "Telecommunication Technologies in Railway Transport." Eduard Sergeyevich took part in the annual international scientific and practical conference "Information Technologies in Railway Transport" and in other scientific and practical conferences and lectures at the Moscow State University of Communications.
In 1998 Eduard Sergeevich got the degree of candidate of economic sciences on the subject "Rail transport management based on modern information technology." He is the author of more than 100 publications and articles, PhD of Transport and the academician of the Transport Academy of Russia, the full member of the International Informatization Academy, the California Academy of Industry, Arts and Education, the Academy of Science and Business Integration, the honored professor of the Far Eastern Railway University, member of the Moscow Intellectual and Business Club. Poddavashkin is also the head of the board of trustees in the church of the Great Martyrs Peter and Paul heads. Since 2000 he is the head of the project of the company "Russian Aluminum".
Edward Sergeyevich is fond of classical music and theatre. He also enjoys gardening: he owns a beautiful rose garden in the countryside.
