Mher Abeghian was born on January 26, 1909 in Vagharshapat, Armavir, Armenia.

From 1922 to 1927 Abeghian studied at the Yerevan State College of Fine Arts under S. Aghajanyan and S. Arakelyan. He also studied under S.V.Gerasimov at the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts in 1927-1930.
Between 1930 and 1931 Abeghian studied at the Leningrad Higher Art and Technical Institute under A.A.Osmerkin.
Mher Abeghian was the author of lyrical landscapes, colorful still lifes, as well as portraits and landscape-genre paintings, numerous easel graphic landscapes (drawings, watercolors, etchings, linocuts).
His first international exhibition took place in London in 1938.
Besides, Abeghian carried out productive pedagogical activity. He was a lecturer at Panos Terlemezian Art College and Yerevan State Art and Theatre Institute.
Mher Abeghian died on November 20, 1994 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Abeghian received two Orders of the Badge of Honor in 1939 and 1956. In 1960 he was named People's Artist of the Armenian SSR.
Moreover, he was also awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples on January 25, 1979 for merits in the development of Soviet fine arts and on the occasion of his seventieth birthday.
Abeghian's works are held in private Collections in the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, Armenia, France, Italy.
Mher Abeghian was the president of Board of the Union of Artists of Armenia.
