This book has been reprinted many times, by many different publishers. Here we are using the original 1926 First edition. There have been many other biographies of Napoleon. What makes Emil Ludwig's work the most famous of all is his literary style and presentation. The book starts with "The Island", and then follows with "The Torrent", "The River", "The Sea" and finally concludes with "The Rock".

Emil Ludwig (1881 - 1948) was a German author of biographies of Napoleon, Bismarck and Jesus. While researching for his book The Nile he became fascinated with the Egyptian queen, famous and infamous for her role in challenging the might of Rome and inadvertently preparing the way for the establishment of the Empire. "Cleopatra: Story of a Queen" was translated by Bernard Miall.
