Gutiérrez was born in 1954 in Mexico City where he spent his youth and was educated through high school.

Gutiérrez studied with Carlos Orozco Romero, as well as at the National School of Arts (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). Following his studies at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he studied with Gilberto Aceves Navarro, he became a professor of drawing at the School of Fine Arts at Complutense University of Madrid, and a scholarship student at the Ministry of Culture of Spain in Segovia.
He is internationally recognized for his many works. His career has included 61 solo exhibitions and 142 group exhibitions throughout Mexico, Central and South America, the United States, and Europe. Gutiérrez" works are displayed in museums and galleries throughout Mexico, Central America and Europe.
He has been awarded the "Arts of the State" and the "Colonel Pedro" prizes in Zacatecas.
1987: First place in the Second Zacatecas State Arts Competition Participated in the XXXII International Congress ex-libris. Exhibition of award-winning Masters work 2009: exhibited in the cities of Chengdu, Dalian, and Tianjin.
