Evgeny Mikhailovich graduated from the 7th Gymnasium in Saint Petersburg, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University, the Military Medical Academy (now The S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy) and the Imperial Archaeological Institute.
In 1902 Evgeny Mikhailovich served as a junior doctor of the 27th Vitebsk Infantry Regiment. At this time, the Police Department became interested in him.
