Felipe Vadillo-Ortega is a Mexican biochemist, scientist and educator. He is a Professor of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Background

Vadillo-Ortega was born on May 5, 1959 in Mexico City, Mexico; the son of Felipe Vadillo-Sanchez and Emma (Martinez) Ortega.

Education

Vadillo-Ortega received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the School of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1983. Five years later he was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the same school. In 1993, Felipe finished his postgraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania.

Career

Vadillo-Ortega began his career as an associate researcher at National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1987. A year later he was appointed a professor at the same university. The same year, Felipe took a position of a titular researcher and a head of biochemistry department at the Institute of National Perinatology.

In 1992, he was a professor at the University of Iberoamericana.

He is a contributor of 45 scientific papers to professional publications.

  • Vadillo-Ortega developed a novel molecular mechanism that explains the premature rupture of membranes, a human disease theat complicates 10% of all pregnancies in Mexico.
