Fujiwara no Kinto was born in 966. The son of Yoritada, who was Prime Minister, he was the cousin of Michinaga Fujiwara.

Fujiwara no Kinto was born in 966. The son of Yoritada, who was Prime Minister, he was the cousin of Michinaga Fujiwara.
Although Michinaga attained highest posts in the Court, Kinto rose only to the rank of Dainagon (Vice Minister). He was called Shijo Dainagon. He excelled in poetry, prose writing and music and was well versed in ancient customs and practices.
He became a Buddhist priest in 1025,on the occasion of the death of his daughter, who was the wife of Noriraichi Fujiwara.
