Fujiwara Moritane was born in Okayama Prefecture.
He graduated from Keio University in 1925. Then he studied history of United States of America in the postgraduate course at Harvard University (from 1927 to 1930).
After serving as director of the American Afiairs Research Institute, he was appointed professor of Keio University in 1951. He was the Vice chairman of the American Affairs Academy.
