Mukyoku Naruse was born in 1885 in Tokyo, Japan.
In 1907 he graduated from the German Literature Section, Tokyo University.
He was a professor emeritus of Kyoto University. Litt.D.
Also he was instructor at Keio University, professor at the Third Higher School and Kyoto University. In 1921 he went to the United States and then to Germany.
Mukyoku received his doctorate for his thesis titled "The Age of Sturm und Drang and Modern German Literature".
In 1932 he organized the Japan Goethe Society.
He lectured at Keio University and Nihon Womens University.
Mukyoku wrote books of essays, literary criticism, novels and plays.
