Fyodor Filipovich Medvedev was born on May 28, 1912 in Semyonovka, Voronezh region, Russian Federation.
Fyodor Filipovich graduated from the school of the 2nd stage (Kalachevsky District of Voronezh Oblast, 1929), Pavlovsk pedagogical school (1931), philological faculty of Kharkiv University (1936) and completed a postgraduate course (Kharkiv University, 1939).
Fyodor Filipovich was a docent (since 1947), professor, head of the Ukrainian language Department of Kharkiv University (since 1965). He was a professor at the University of Warsaw (1957-1959). He trained many linguists and specialists in Ukrainian philology. Fyodor Filipovich had been leading the literature and language section of the Kharkiv regional branch of the society "Knowledge" for 17 years. Author of more than 400 scientific works including about 20 textbooks concerning the Ukrainian literary language and its history.
Fyodor Filipovich was a member of the Ukrainian Committee of Slavists, member of the editorial board of the magazine "Movoznavstvo" (Kiev).
