Groh received a diploma in physics from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1974. Eight years later he was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree in mathematics from the same university.
Groh began his career as a research associate at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 1975 and held the position for seven years and in 1985-2005. In 1982, he became a research associate at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, where he worked until 1983.
A year later Gabor was a visiting lecturer of mathematics department at the University of California in Berkeley. The same year he was appointed a consultant at Medichem S. A. in Fribourg, Switzerland. Since 1995, Groh has been a president of Physmatec Consulting.
Groh is a member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Industrial and Applied Mathematics Society, New York Academy of Science, European Mathematics Society and Swiss Mathematics Society.
On July 21, 1979 Gabor Groh married Keiko Fuse. They have 2 children.
