In 1937 – finished 8 grades of the secondary school in Enakievo. 13 June 1941 - graduated from Voroshilovgrad (now Lugansk, Ukraine) Military Aviation School. December 1942 – 25 March 1943 - listener of the 5th Training Air Regiment of the 3rd Air Army, Kalinin Front. 3 June - 7 November 1945 - listener of the Commanders Training Department of the Air Squadrons of the Lipetsk Higher Officer School of the Moscow Military District. In 1947 - passed the external examinations for 9th grades in secondary school named after N.S. Khrushchev, Limanskoye, Odessa region. 9 July 1947 – 23 August 1948 - a student of the command department of the KVVA (now named after YA Gagarin). He transferred to the extramural department, which he graduated on December 25, 1956, receiving the specialty "Air Force officer with higher command and stuff education".
From 13 June 1941 - August 1946 - the pilot of the reconnaissance air regiment (AR), the Central Front, the pilot of the near-bomber air regiment of the Privolzhsky Military Region, the commander of the assault aviation regiment, the Kalinin Front, deputy squadron commander of the Kalininsky and Voronezh fronts, squadron commander, navigator and chief of the air and rifle service, Starokonstantinov, Odessa Military Region. From 23 August 1948 to August 1959 - test pilot, senior test pilot, deputy chief of the flight department, deputy chief of the flight operations department at the State Research Institute of Air Force named after V.P. Chkalov. Since 8 August 1959 - the main test pilot of the Complex 1 of the test aircraft squadron of the Interception Test Department systems and fighter aircraft. From 25 February 1961 to December 1963 - senior test pilot, deputy commander of the squadron, 1st aviation test squadron commander of the State Air Navigation Research Institute, military unit 15650.
25 January 1964 - enlisted to the position of the 1st Cosmonaut Corps listener-cosmonaut of the Air Force (additionally enlisted in the 2nd set). From 23 January 1965 - appointed to the post of cosmonaut of the 2nd corps.

26-30 October 1968 - as commander-pilot of the Soyuz-3 spacecraft. G. Beregovoi did not manage to dock with the unmanned Soyuz-2 spacecraft. Flight duration: 3 days 22 hours 50 min. 45 seconds. Call sign: Argon.
He flew some 185 combat sorties during the course of World War II and rose quickly through the ranks, finishing the war as a captain and squadron commander. Following the war, he became a test pilot, and over the next sixteen years test-flew some sixty different aircraft, rising to the rank of colonel and the position of deputy chief of the air force's flight-testing department.
