This autobiographical story “Memoirs of a Barber” of 1930 is translated into many languages. The events described in the book cover the period from the beginning of the 20th century to 1927. It shows us a vivid realistic picture of the Italian society of that time and, in particular, the position of the Italian working masses and their struggle for their social and political emancipation. Jermanetto shows the struggle of the Italian working class against secular and ecclesiastical reaction, the history of the Italian Communist Party formation and its heroic struggle against the fascist dictatorship.

Germanetto Giovanni was a hairdresser by profession. In 1927 Germanetto Giovanni emigrated from Italy and lived in France and then in the USSR. In 1946 he returned to Italy. Giovanni died, when he was on treatment in Moscow. His autobiographical story “Memoirs of a Barber” of 1930 is translated into many languages. In the summer of 1938 Germanetto came to Voronezh, where he delivered speeches in front of journalists and writers, attended different enterprisers. According to N.A. Zadonsky, Germanetto visited Voronezh for the second time together with the Moscow writer V.G. Fink in the end of April – the beginning of May 1941, met with N.A. Zadonsky, B.G. Peskov, E.D. Troshchenko and other writers.
