Goodwin Steinberg was born on the 21st of November, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, United States, the son of Edward P. and Anna (Lubliner) Steinberg.
Goodwin Steinberg attended Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947. He studied under the acclaimed Bauhaus architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and continued postgraduate studies at France’s Palace of Fontainebleau under Princeton University professor Jean Labatut.
Goodwin Steinberg was Board Chair at Steinberg Group in San Jose in 1952-1999.
Steinberg also served as an Advisor for the Development of Guadalupe River Park at City of San Jose and President of Guadalupe River Park Organization.
Steinberg's memoir "From the Ground Up: Building Silicon Valley" was published in 2002 by Stanford University Press.
Goodwin Steinberg is particularly known as the author of books on design and architect. As a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, his creative talent combined with good timing helped transform the Valley of Hearts Delight into the economic engine known as Silicon Valley.
During his career and life, he received national, state, and local architecture awards. His a 50-year career spanned thousands of projects, including award-winning homes, corporate campuses, and sacred space.
Goodwin identified a 10-acre property in Los Altos Hills and designed the distinctive synagogue that became Congregation Beth Am, Hebrew for House of the People, now the spiritual home of some 1,600 families. Perhaps Steinberg’s proudest volunteer achievement was serving as a citizen advisor to the creation of Guadalupe River Park.
Steinberg Architects, which now includes Steinberg’s son Robert, grew to become an international architectural firm with offices in San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.

Rob is internationally recognized as an expert and design practice innovator in urban planning, hospitality, and mixed-use projects. He has been awarded numerous national and international design awards and is frequently published in industry journals and publications.
Geraldine served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in the 1970s.
Thomas has success as President of the Tisch Family Interests and co-founder of the Meor Foundation dedicated to Jewish studies at 25 leading American college campuses.
