When her nephew, Sukemori, rose in revolt against the Kamakura Shogunate (1201), she fought bravely with him. Wounded and captured, she was brought to Kamakura. She was calm and undaunted when she was brought in the presence of Shogun Yoriie Minamoto. Impressed by her, Yoshito Asari, a Shogunate retainer who was an able archer, married her with the Shogun's permission, in spite of her ugliness.
