Grigori Ivanovich graduated from the Kaluga Theological Seminary (1867) and Kiev Theological Academy (1871).
In Voronezh, Grigori Ivanovich taught at the Theological Seminary (1871-1879), the (since 1873), the real school (since 1876; Russian language and literature). He was a director of the 2nd male gymnasium (1903-1916). Member of the Voronezh Provincial Statistical Committee, Voronezh Scientific Archival Commission and other provincial cultural and educational organizations.
Since 1870 published as a prose writer - from the mid-1870s (in the journal "Vestnik Evropy"). Collaborated with the journal "Notes of the Fatherland" (1880-1884), corresponded with M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin.
