Gyoju Odate was born in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Gyoju Odate graduated from Postgraduate Department of Columbia University (1921) and then studied at Michigan University and New York University, receiving a degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia university.
Gyoju Odate was a lecturer at Keio University, Rikkyo (St. Paul's) University and Chuo University and served as chief of Research Department of Mitsui Kinyii Kenkyiikai (Mitsui Finance Research Society). Appointed professor of Economics Department of Nihon University (1941) and thereafter became president of Akita Junior College (since 1953).
Served also as auditor of Matsuura Mine, counselor of Toa Petroleum Company and lecturer of Nihon Joshi Keizai Semmon Gakko (Nihon Women's College of Economics).
Holds additional posts of managing director of Seiwakai (Society of Pure Talk-an economic organization), trustee of Nihon University and director of Takanawa Gakuen (Takanawa Academy).
