Ichijima Kenkichi was born in Nugata Prefecture.
A graduate of the School of Literature, Tokyo University.
He joined the Kaishin-to Party of Marquis Shigenobu Okuma and later became a newspaperman. Participated in the establishment of the Takata Shimbun in Niigata Prefecture, became editor-in-chief of the ISngata Shimbun and then the Yomiuri Shimbun in Tokyo. Was elected to the House of Representatives three times. Was an instructor at Waseda University and director of its library. In his late years, he was devoted to writing exclusively. Wrote more than ten books, mostly collections of his essays.
