Ikkei Ukita was born in 1795 in Japan. Original personal name: Kimi-Nobu.
Ikkei Ukita studied paintings under Totsugen Tanaka and then made efforts to revive the ancient Yamatoe style of paintings.
Later when foreigner's wave began to spread Ikkei Ukita joined it by painting pictures dedicated to Americans such as those showing American ships' sinking. During the Ansei-no-Taigoku he fell foul of the Shogunate and was imprisoned (1858). Was released the following year but died of illness shortly afterward.
