He studied at the Belarusian State University and Minsk Musical Tekhnikum (College). In 1932, I.Zhinovich became one of the first students of the newly founded Belarusian State Conservatory. During the years of the Great Patriotic War (World War II) the musician worked in battlefront concert brigades, was a soloist of Kazan State Philharmonic Society, of the Belarusian Opera and Ballet Theatre evacuated to the city of Kirov.
In 1946, I.Zhinovich became art director of the State Folk Orchestra of the Belarusian SSR. At the same time, he worked productively at the Belarusian State Conservatoire, where he became the head of the chair of folk instruments.
