Ivan Ivanovich Vasilyov was born on June 6, 1836 in Pskov, Russian Federation.
He studied at the Pskov and Riga Theological seminaries, graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy (1860, master's degree).
Ivan Ivanovich Vasilyov was a teacher of Physics and Mathematics in Voronezh Theological Seminary (1860-1862). At the same time, he is a teacher at the Voronezh Mariinskaya Women's Gymnasium.
Since 1862 he lived in Pskov, where he was actively engaged in historical and geographical study of his native country. One of the organizers of the provincial museum (1876). Later he served in the Ministry of Finance, held important posts in St. Petersburg, Penza, Lomzha (Poland), Riga, again in Pskov.
Creative activity began in Voronezh with the publication of "Pisma o sovremennyih yavleniyah iz voronezhskoy obschestvennoy zhizni" (Voronezhskie gubernskie vedomosti, 1862, No. 19-21, 23). He is the author of many local history works, including the brochure "Sledy prebyivaniya Aleksandra Sergeevicha Pushkina v Pskovskoy gubernii" (Pskov, 1899).
