Dimitry was an archbishop, local historian, historian, church figure, doctor of church history (1904).
Background
Dimitry (Sambikin Dmitry Ivanovich) was born on October 03, 1839 in Karayashnik village, Ostrogozhsky Uyezd (now Karayashnik, Lugansk Region, Ukraine). He was the son of I.T.Sambikin (1814-1901), who was Protopriest of Karayashnik village and a relative of Metropolitan Evgeny (Bolkhovitinov).
Education
In 1861 Dimitry graduated from the Voronezh Theological Seminary, in 1865 he ended the Petersburg Theological Academy.
Since 1866 he lived in Voronezh and worked as a librarian in the Public Library, then as a biblical and church history teacher at the Voronezh Theological Seminary. In 1866-1872 Dimitry was the senior priest at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Protopriest. In 1872-1881 he was the rector at the Tambov Theological Seminary. In 1877 Dimitry became a monk. In 1881-1886 he worked as a rector at the Voronezh Theological Seminary, and also he was an editor of the "Voronezh Diocesan Journal". In December 1886 Dimitry was appointed Bishop of Balakhna, since 1887 - Bishop of Baltia, since 1890 - Bishop of Podolsk and Bratslav. Since 1896 he was Bishop of Tver, since 1898 - Archbishop of Tver, since 1905 - Archbishop of Kazan and Sviyazhsk.
He published articles on the history of individual churches and monasteries in “Voronezh Diocesan Journal” since the time when newspaper was founded (1866). Since 1881 Dimitry collected materials about the temples of the Voronezh diocese. The result of the work was the "Index of Temple Festivals in the Voronezh Diocese" (Voronezh, 1884-1886, Issue 1-4), which summarizes information on 950 monasteries, parish, cemetery and house churches, Dimitry systematized information about the earliest mention of each church (1886). ), published a collection of obituary records, which were conducted in the second half of the XVIII century by the merchants of Eliseev.
At the initiative of Dimitry in the "Voronezh diocesan Journal" a series of articles was published, which was written by village priests and had historical and ethnographic descriptions of the parishes.

Dimitry had a wife Varvara Scryabina, daughter of Mikhail Skryabin who was the Protopriest of the Voronezh Trinity Cathedral. The couple had a son Ivan.
