Between 1977 and 1981, Gamble studied at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1987, he entered the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a Master of Business Administration degree in 1989.
In 1981, Gamble began his career as a manager and consultant at Price Waterhouse Management Consultants, a post he held till 1987. Between 1989 and 1991, he acted as an associate at McKinsey & Company's New York office. From 1991 till 1995, J. S. worked at GTE Wireless.
In December 1995, Gamble was appointed Area Vice President (Baltimore Metro Area) at Comcast, a post he continued to hold till July 1999, when he was promoted to the post of Region Senior Vice President in charge of Washington Metro/Virginia Region at the same company. In March 2006, he left the position. In April 2006, Gamble was made Senior Vice President in charge of Wireless Operations at Comcast, a post he continued to hold until December 2008.
Since April 2009, Gamble has been holding a post of an Advisory Board Member at eClerx. In August 2010, J. S. co-founded and became Managing Principal at Blu Venture Investors, a post he currently holds. Since June 2011, he has been an Investment Advisory Board Member at the Center for Innovative Technology GAP Funds in Herndon, Virginia. In January 2012, J.
