John Van Brunt was born in 1855 in Englewood, New Jersey, United States.
after the late eighties, when he moved to Kansas City,he was associated with his brother Henry until the latter’s death in 1903. Interested particularly in residential work, he was identified with the design of many of the late nineteenth century homes in Kansas City, also served on the architectural staff of the City Park Board. In 1915 he entered into partnership with the late Alfred W. Hertz, and after that was terminated, Mr. Van Brunt carried on work under his own name with an office in the Republic Building.
