He fought alongside his father, against the Minamoto Clan, in the Hōgen Rebellion of 1156. In the war of the Hogen Era (1156), he followed Yoshitomo Minamoto but later belonged to the Taira forces, attacked and defeated Yoritomo Minamoto at Ishibashiyama (Kanagawa Prefecture) (1180). When Yoritomo became powerful later, he surrendered to him and was beheaded on the Katase River (Kanagawa Prefecture).
