Kagemasa no Taira

Background

Kagemasa Taira was born in 1068. Son of Kagenari and grandson of Tadamichi Taira, governor of Kyushu.

Career

In the Gosannen War, he at the age of 15 followed Yoshiie Minamoto in his campaign in northern Japan. During an attack on Kanazawa Castle, an enemy arrow hit him in the eye. Undaunted, he broke the shaft of the arrow and killed his enemy. Tametsugu Miura came on the scene and tried to pluck the broken arrow from Kagemasa's eye with his foot on the wounded warrior's face. Kagemasa reprimanded Miura for his rudeness and made him kneel to extract the arrow.
