Kinkata Toin was born in 1291 in Japan.
Kinkata Toin became a minister of the Imperial Household (1330) and during the Kemmu-chuko (restoration of Imperial sway during Kemmu Era) was made Minister of Right and tutor to Crown Prince.
When the Imperial rule split into two (south at Yoshino and north at Kyoto) he remained in Kyoto and served Emperor Komyo. Was appointed prime minister (1348) and later became a priest under the name Kugen.
Kinkata Toin was well read, fully conversant with ancient customs and practices and distinguished himself as an able administrator. His diary titled Entairyaku became a useful reference book on Imperial ceremonies.
