Worked as a teacher but was dismissed for political activities and sentenced to a year in prison. 1889-1917 worked for statistical bureaux in Tver’, Yaroslavl’ and Simbir’ zemstvos. 1905-1907 exiled to Vologda, where he also did statistical work.
After 1917 October Revol, head, Omsk and Ulyanovsk Statistical Bureaux. From 1925 worked for Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Centr Statistical Board. Supervised compilation of statistics on domestic industry in Yaroslavl’ Province which Lenin quoted in his book “The Development of Capitalism in Russia”.
While working in Simbir’ Province conducted first-ever short-term zemstvo household census with the help of voluntary workers. In latter years worked on questions of agriculture-c zoning
