Kyoichi Kambe was born in Yamanashi Prefecture. He was the eldest son of Ichir Kambe.

In 1889 Kambe Kyoichi graduated from Japanese-French Law School, Tokyo.
After the graduation with the recommendation of Ippei Wakao, Kyoichi Kambe joined the Tokyo Horse Railway Co. and soon became its manager. After serving the company for eight years he joined the staff of Japan Railway Co. (1897). With a view to opening a muslin company, he went to Europe to study the industry there. Returning home (1908) he became director of Toyo Muslin Co.
Kyoichi Kambe held important posts with Railway Transportation Co., Tobu Bank, Japan Hemp-dressing Co., Tokyo Electric Light Co. and eventually founded Shin-etsu Electric Power Co.
