In 1962 Laurent finished Williams College and attained Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1963 Laurent got Master of Arts degree in teaching graduating from Harvard University. Moreover, in 1972 he obtained Doctor of Education degree.
From 1963 till 1965 Laurent served as a trainer in Missouri and Washington and volunteer in Nepal. In 1966 Laurent worked as a language arts consultant at PACE Curriculum Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia, United States. From 1966 till 1967 he held the post of a social studies teacher at Konawaena High School in Kealakekua, Hawaii, United States.
Moreover, from 1969 to 1971 Daloz was an educational planner at Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. Also, from 1972 till 1976 he held the post of a founding academic dean at Community College of Vermont in Montpelier, Vermont, United States. From 1977 till 1984 and from 1979 to 1980 Laurent worked as a faculty mentor for external degree program at Johnson College in Johnson, Vermont, United States.
