Stuart Lavin was born on April 2, 1945, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of Fredrick Lavin, a businessman, and Selma Laboritz.
Stuart Lavin attended American International College, where he got a Bachelor of Arts in literature in 1967. Also, he graduated from Trinity College and received a Master of Arts in literature in 1970.
Stuart Lavin has been widely published since 1967 in the United States as well as internationally in the United Kingdom, China, Poland, Israel, Japan, and The Netherlands. He got his start as a poet during his time at Trinity and established ties with the small press community of western Massachusetts. Among his books are Let Me Shine, The Stonecutters at War With the Cliff Dwellers, Voice in the Whirlwind, Metacomet: The Saga of King Philip, ECTO, God's People in Search of a Destiny, a provocative look at life inside The Twelve Tribes Communities, and others, printed by the poet in a limited edition. Besides, Lavin served as an editor and publisher of the Jerusalem House. He also was a co-founder, with Dan Carr, editor, and publisher of The Four Zoas Journal of Poetry and Letters.
Stuart Lavin served as a creative writing teacher at several colleges in Vermont, including Castleton University and Community College of Vermont, and also was a poet-in-residence at Clark University and Northampton School for Girls. He has taught Creative Writing, Literature, given writing workshops, and has performed in numerous colleges, coffee houses, galleries, and art centers.
Stuart Lavin was best known as a writer. He was the author of more than fifteen writings. Additionally, Lavin is a five-time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Grants in Literature in 1972-1980. Also, he was the winner of the Leonardo da Vinci Cultural Achievement Award for Cultural Achievement in 1977. Additionally, Stuart Lavin was a co-founder of The Four Zoas Journal of Poetry and Letters.
