1930. Took part in WW11, taken prisoner by the Germans, 1941. After 1945, in DP camps in West Germany.
One of the founders of the magazine Grani, published in Frankfurt. Moved to the USA. Taught Russian literature at American and Scandinavian universities. Wrote several novels and many articles and linguistic studies published in various Russian periodicals abroad.
