Hibbs, Louis E. was born on October 3, 1893 in Washington, District of Columbia. Son of Frank Warren and Janette (Nelson) Hibbs.


Student Culver Military Academy, 1909-1911. Bachelor of Science, United States Military Academy, 1916.


Commissioned Second lieutenant, 1916 and advanced through the grades to major general, 1943. Combat duty with artillery, 1st Division and 2d American Corps. 1917-1918; adjunct and aide to General Douglas MacArthur, 1919-1922.

Staff and command duties, 1922-1940, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Hawaii, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Washington, District of Columbia, West Point, New York. Commanding 63d Infantry Division, May 1943-1946. Commanding Field Art.

School, August 1945-June 1946. Commanding 12th Infantry Division, P.I., 1946, retired from active duty.


Married Margaret Hayes, February 17, 1923. Children: Louis Emerson.
