Makiko Kusama is a Japanese pharmacist and pharmaceutical scientist whose work has addressed clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacy education, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmaceutical regulation, drug safety, and health policy. She has worked at the University of Tokyo and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development.
Education
Kusama graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Tokyo in 1997 and completed a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences at the university in 1999. Her academic training led to work spanning clinical pharmacy, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical regulatory science, pharmacy education, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Career
Kusama began her professional career in 1999 in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Tokyo Hospital, where she worked as an assistant through 2004. Her early work included hospital pharmaceutical care, clinical pharmacy education, adverse-drug-reaction monitoring, and pharmacokinetic research.
