Mary E. Hazard was born in Detroit, Michigan.

Education

In 1950, Hazard received a Bachelor of Arts from Siena Heights College. In 1954, she also received a Master of Arts from Western Reserve (now Case Western Reserve) University, and a Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College in 1970.

Career

Mary E. Hazard started her career as an instructor in English at the University of Hawaii. Later, she was an instructor in English at Temple University.

Hazard also was an assistant professor, then an associate professor, and finally a professor of English at Drexel University. Currently, Mary is a professor emerita there. She also was a guest lecturer at the University of Stockholm and Bar-Ilan University, both in 1998, as well as at the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, Moore College of Art, and University of Delaware.

Achievements

• Mary E. Hazard is particularly known as the author of Elizabethan Silent Language. She is also known as a contributor to books, including Shakespeare and the Arts: Selected Papers from the Ohio Shakespeare Conference and to periodicals, including Mosaic: Journal for the Interdisciplinary Study of Literature, Texas Studies in Literature and Language, Cahiers Elisabethains, Word and Image: International Journal of Verbal/Visual Enquiry, Art Quarterly, and Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism.

On December 29, 1950, Mary married Patrick D. Hazard, but they divorced in 1970. The couple has three children - Michael, Catherine and Timothy.
