Masayo Asukai was born in 1390. He was a descendant of Masatsune Fujiwara.

Career
Patronized by Shogun Yoshi- nori Ashikaga, he accompanied the Shogun in his pleasure trip to Suruga (Shizuoka Prefecture) in 1432. By order of Emperor Gohanazono, he compliled Shin Zoku Kokinwakashu, a waka antholo. From which he excluded all poems by poets belonging to the Nancho, or South Im-perial Dynasty. Became a bonze in 1442, assuming the name of Yua.
