Mr. Ku was born in Beijing, China, in 1888.
Ku Meng-yu studied in Peking and later attended Berlin University, Germany, specialising in economics, from which he graduated.
Mr. Ku was a professor and later dean of the department of economics of the Peking Government University during 1922-1925. He jointed the Kuomintang and became prominent member of the Left Wing under the leadershinp of Wang Chingwei. Mr. Ku was elected member of the Central Executive Committee of Kuomintang in 1926. Since 1927 he acted as a chief of the publicity department of the Central Party Headquarters of Kuomintang. Ku Meng-yu was a member of the Nationalist Government in Wuhan and concurrently Minister of Education in 1927.
After the split of the Nanjing and Wuhan factions, he resigned from all his posts and went abroad. Mr. Ku participated in the Northern Military Coalition in Peking in 1930, for which he was expelled from the Kuomintang by the Nanjing Government, but was restored to his membership on the Central Executive Committee in December 1931. He was a Minister of Railways of the National Government from March 1931 to December 1935. Ku Meng-yu was appointed Minister of Communications in December 1935, but declined the appointment. Then he became a member of the Central Political Council and State Council.
