Mitrofan Voronezhskiy was the priest in the village Sidorovskoe Shuisky County. In 1663, he became a monk in the Zolotnikovsky desert. Hegumen of Yakhromsky Kozmin Monastery (1665-1675), where he built the vast Spassky temple. The hegumen of Makaryevsky Unzhensky monastery (1675-1682), where, on his initiative, built the stone Church of the Annunciation (1680). From 1681, he was on the line of priesthood in Moscow.
Since 1696, he bore the title of bishop of Voronezh and Azov. Under Mitrofan guidance the number of churches in the diocese increased from 182 to 285. He achieved a significant increase in the size of the diocese, the registry of monasteries and patrimonies.
Mitrofan Voronezhskiy supported the state and military transformations of Peter I, in the years 1700-1701 donated 7,000 rubles to shipbuilding.
The relics of Mitrofan were found in 1831, canonized by the Holy Synod in 1832. In 1836, the Mitrofanovsky Annunciation Monastery was established, where the relics of Mitrofan were transferred to.
