After the Sekigahara Battle (1600), Nagamasa was made lord of Chikuzen (Fukuoka Prefecture) and Mototsugu left his service and became a ronin (unemployed samurai) y with the belief that he could not amount to anything li he lived in that part of Japan which was so far removed from the national capital at Kyoto. Upon the outbreak of the Osaka-jin (It means battle) in 1615 m which the Toyotomis were defeated by the Tokugawas, he joined the Toyotomi forces, fought bravely but was killed in action.
