Nagabumi Ariga

Background

Nagabumi Ariga was born in Osaka in 1865. He was a younger brother of Ariga Nagao.

Education

In 1889 graduated from Tokyo University.

Career

In 1898 he was appointed director of the Engineering Department of the Agriculture and Commerce Ministry. Joined the Seiyukai Party and later turned to business. In 1902 joining the Mitsui Company. He had his ability recognized by Kaoru Inoue, who was closely connected with the Mitsuis. He was promoted to managing director of the Mitsui Company and president of the Mitsui Bank. Also held important positions including the directorship of the Mitsui Trust Company and the Nippon Steel Manufacturing Co., Ltd., etc.
