1967-1974 Surgical training in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin and in hospitals in England, principally in the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital London.

1974-1977 Senior Lecturer in Surgery and Consultant Surgeon, University College Hospital Medical School London

1977-2007 Professor and Head of Department of Surgery, University College Dublin at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin

2008-2011, Foundation Professor of Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical University of Bahrain
