Nikolai Platonovich Barsukov was a Russian archaeographer, historian and bibliographer. He created a number of biographies of Russian culture figures.
Background
Nikolai Platonovich Barsukov was born on November 20, 1838, in Lipetsk, Lipetsk Oblast, Russian Federation in the family of lieutenant Platon Aleksandrovich Barsukov. He had three brothers, Alexandr, Ivan, Mikhail. He spent his childhood in village Ivanovka near Tambov.
Education
Like many nobles, Nikolai Platonovich received a military education. He studied at the Cadet Corps in Voronezh, then at the 2nd Konstantinovsky Military School in Saint Petersburg. After graduation, Nikolai Platonovich was promoted to the collegiate registrar. He was a non-credit student at Saint Petersburg Imperial University.
Career
In 1863 Nikolai Platonovich entered the service of the Archaeographic Commission. Later he was an assistant of file clerk of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, then he managed the archives of the Ministry of National Education (Russian Empire). In the 1860s Nikolai Platonovich started to collect the material for his works. Since 1866 he published his works in "Vestnik Evropy" and "Russky Arkhiv".
