1893 graduate Medical Faculty, Khar’kov University.
From 1894 worked at P. 1. Kovalevskiy’s Psychiatric Clinic, Khar’kov University. 1896 defended doctor’s thesis on the pathology of epilepsy.
1918 associate professor, Chair of Neuropathology and Psychiatry, Kiev University. 1919 evacuated with White Army to Novorossiysk, from where he made his way to Greek island of Lemnos. From Lemnos moved to Yugoslavia.
1921-1928 associate professor, Chair of Psychiatry, Zagreb University. From 1928 professor Chair of Psychiatry and Experimental Psychology, Belgrade University. 1946 returned to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and worked for the rest of his life at the Ukraine Psychoneurological Research Institute.
Also head, Kiev Biophysical Laboratory. Opposed plans to decentralize the psychiatric service on the grounds that this would lead to duplication and a lowering of medical standards. Devised toxictheory of epilepsy and established that the toxic agent in epileptics is ammonium carbamate, a hypothesis which was later confirmed by I. F. Sluchevskiy.
Also did important research on hysteria. Wrote over 200 works.
Religious moral codes pervert people outside their group as less moral. Thus, religion is socially divisive and its effect is harmful for society.
Strong communist party can create a new and better society with neither rich nor poor.
