Nikolay Ivanovich Leporsky was the Soviet therapist, the academician of AMH (1944), scientist of RSFSR (1944), winner of the State award USSR (1952) and major general of medical service.
Background
Nikolay Leporsky was born on January 14, 1877 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Federation in a preacher's family. His father, Ivan Petrovich Leporsky (1835-1887),was a priest of a noble orphanage in Nizhny Novgorod. His brother, Peter Ivanovich Leporsky (1871-1923),was a spiritual writer, Archpriest and Professor at Saint Petersburg Theological Academy. His another brother, Alexander Leporsky, was the Director of the Pskov Theological Seminary.
Education
In 1903 Nikolay Leporsky graduated from the Medical Faculty of Yuriev University (now University of Tartu).
Career
In 1904-1905 Nikolay Leporsky was a military doctor. In 1906-1914 he was an assistant at the faculty clinic of internal diseases of Yuriev University (now University of Tartu). In 1914-1917 he was a director at the faculty clinic of internal diseases of Yuriev University. In 1917-1923 he was head of the Hospital Therapeutic Clinic of the medical faculty at Tomsk University. In 1923-1930 he was head of the department of hospital therapy at Voronezh State University. In 1930-1943 he was head of the department of hospital therapy at Voronezh State Medical Institute. Since 1930 he was deputy of Voronezh City Council and since 1938 of Voronezh Regional Council. Since 1943 he headed the Hospital Therapeutic Clinic at the Naval Medical Academy in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg).
Achievements
In 1944 Nikolay Ivanovich became an Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences and an Honored Scientist of the RSFSR. In 1952 he became a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR.
In the 1930s-1940s the name of Leporsky was given to a street in Voronezh (now the name of the street is Leningradskaya).
Antonina Chernyshova (maiden name - Mashkina, 1878-1950) was the wife of Nikolay Ivanovich. His son Nikolay (1910-1952) was a doctor and physiologist. His daughter Tatyana (1911-1975) was a pediatrician. His son Alexey (1912-1993) was a chemist and associate Professor of Military Medical Academy in Saint Petersburg.
