Norma Bondeson Gaffron was born on November 5, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. She is the daughter of Peter Albert and Minnie (Gaustad) Bondeson.
Gaffron graduated with honours from Winona State Teachers College in 1951. In 1976 Norma received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Minnesota.
Norma went on to teach third grade at Dodge Center schools from 1951-53, second grade at Lester Parker School in Duluth from 1954-56, and third grade at Mounds View school district from 1956-1960.
Norma has been a freelance writer since 1977, publishing five nonfiction books for upper elementary grades, as well as many articles in magazines and newspapers. She currently works and lives in New Brighton, Minnesota.
Gaffron has been a successful freelance writer since 1977, writing for newspapers and magazines including The Minneapolis Star Tribune, Field and Stream, SAIL, Jack and Jill and Children’s Digest. She published five nonfiction books for middle-grade readers that were reviewed by Book List and School Library Journal. Her work includes such books as El Dorado, Land of Gold: Opposing Viewpoints, The Bermuda Triangle: Opposing Viewpoints, Unicorns Opposing Viewpoints (Great Mysteries), Bigfoot: Opposing Viewpoints (Great Mysteries) and Dealing With Death (Lucent Overview Series).
