In 1913 Oscar Gustavovoch graduated from Petersburg Forest Institute.
After graduation in 1913 Oscar Gustavovich worked as a teacher at Khrenovskoy Forest School and at the same time as an assistant of the forester of Khrenovskoye Forestry. During 1916-1924, he was an assistant and an associate professor of Voronezh Agricultural Institute. He devoted his life to studying agriculture and silviculture that is why he became a candidate of agricultural sciences in 1937. During 1930-1941 Oscar Gustavovich worked as a Head of the Department of Forestry and Dendrology. In 1937 he was appointed a dean of the forest department of Voronezh Agricultural Institute. Oscar Gustavovich was a Head of the Department of Forestry during 1941-1966 and a Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at Voronezh Forestry Institute during 1949-1959.
Oscar Gustavovich was known for his negative attitude towards religion as it prevented from discovering new things in this world.
He believed that Marxism-Leninism the only way of seeing and watching the world.
Oscar Gustavovich was married and had 2 daughters.
Marianna Oscarovna Garina (nee Kapper) was born on October, 5, 1919 and died in 2005. She took participation in the Great Patriotic War.
