Background
Ouchi Mochiyo was born in 1394. He was the son of Yoshihiro. His father having been killed in war when he was still a child, his uncle, Morimi became head of his family.

Upon his uncle Morimi being killed in a battle with the Shonis (1431), Mochiyo defeated the combined forces of the Otomos and Shonis. When Shogun Yoshinori Ashikaga was assassinated (1441) by Mitsusuke Akamaisu, Mochiyo, who was accompanying the Shogun, was seriously wounded. Died soon afterward.
