This book provides a more systematic perspective on Benjamin, laying claim to his status as a philosopher and situating his work in the context of its time.
Rochlitz graduated from the University of Paris with Doctor of Philosophy degree.
Rochlitz began his career in 1986, when he was appointed as a researcher in philosophy to the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. He was also a director of seminars at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
As a philosopher, Rochlitz specialized in aesthetics, exploring the nature of art, beauty, and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty. He wrote books on the theme. In addition, Rochlitz translated the work of Adorno, Habermas, Ricoeur and Lévi-Strauss.
