Khatskevich studied at the Borisov primary-school teachers' training college and then at Minsk teachers' training institute.
He worked as a teacher almost all his life. He is the author of many stories, poems, works for children and translation from Russian and Ukrainian languages. In 1930 his first poems appeared at “Belarusian pioneer”(“Piyaner Belarusi”) newspaper. The main themes are native land, high rank of human, formation of Soviet power and events of the Civil War. In 1936 he became the victim of political repression. He was under examination in Minsk almost 1.5 year. And he was convicted to 5 years’ forced labour in the north. In 1959 he was fully discharged.
