Semyon Moiseevich Krivoshein was born on November 16, 1899 in Voronezh, Russian Federation, in the well-to-do family of a Jewish artisan shop owner.
In 1917 Semyon Krivoshein graduated from a Russian secondary school for the educated elite. Since 1918 he served in the Red Army. In 1931 he graduated from the Military Academy named after Frunze. In 1932 he completed Higher Academic Courses under the General Staff Academy.
Semyon Moiseevich Krivoshein participated in Russian Civil War, in Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), he also fought against Japanese troops in the Battle of Lake Khasan, 1938, was a participant in the Winter War, 1939-1940, and in the Great Patriotic War. In 1937 Semyon Moiseevich Krivoshein became Brigade Commander. On June 4, 1940 he became Major General of Armored Forces. In 1943, Semyon Krivoshein was promoted to the rank of Lt. General of Armored Forces.
After the Great Patriotic War, he was appointed the head of a department in the Frunze Military Academy. He occupied command positions in the Russian Armed Forces. Since 1953 Semyon Moiseevich was a military reservist.
He lived and worked in Moscow. He spent the last quarter century of his life writing four books of his war memoirs.
The 1st Mechanized Corps (the 2nd Guards Tank Army, the 1st Belarusian Front) under Krivoshein’s command played a notable role in Berlin operation and in city fights.
A street in Voronezh where there is a memorial plaque is named after Krivoshein (Krivoshein Str., 13). In 2005 a bust of him was installed in Ostrogozhsk where he lived and studied.
On May 29, 1945 Semyon Krivoshein became Hero of the Soviet Union. He also was awarded Three Orders of Lenin (1937, 1945, 1945), Three Orders of the Red Banner (1930, 1944, 1949), First Class Order of Kutuzov (on April 6, 1945), Second Class Order of Suvorov (on August 27, 1943), Order of the Red Star (1935), medals.
Semyon Moiseevich was Honorary Citizen of Ostrogozhsk and Alekseyevka, Belgorod region. He also was Honorary Citizen of Brest.
